Can you help solve the Climate Crisis? With just under 8 billion people on the planet we face a threat of our own making as climate change seeks to wreak havoc across the globe. This is a crisis like no other. Climate Crisis, the game, is a collaborative board game where you and your friends (maybe even your enemies) can sit down together and try and save not only the planet but humankind. General game play description: Players must work collaboratively to save the world from climate change. There is a tricky balance between moving to renewable energy, recycling, population, staying alive and keeping enough energy to keep going. The goal is to optimise world population, stay alive and achieve environmental sustainability! The players work together as they search for scientific discoveries that will solve our climate crisis. This needs to be done all the while the population and pollution across the planet grows and the level of Greenhouse Gase Each player has special skills that they can use to work together to save the planet. A highly collaborative game where players need to coordinate their actions and devise plans and strategies to solve the crisis. Sustainable Qualities: This game is all about educating people about the trade offs around sustainability. The complex interaction between population, energy production and consumption, food production, water use, economic advancement. It also shows the impact of pollution and waste and the dramatic effects of climate change … whilst still giving people hope that if we collaborate and work together we can build a solution to escape the mess that we have made.

Libro: Economic Aspects of Adaptation to Climate Change (978-92-64-04603-0) de OECD Publishing (Org. for Economic Cooperation Development ) Comprar Libros de Ciencias Técnicas .. Climate change poses a serious challenge to social and economic development. Efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions need to move hand in hand with policies and incentives to adapt to the impacts of climate change. How much adaptation might cost, and how large its benefits might be, are issues that are increasingly relevant both for on-the-ground projects and in international development co-operation and negotiations contexts. This report provides a critical assessment of adaptation costs and benefits in key climate sensitive sectors, as well as at national and global levels. It also moves the discussion beyond cost estimation to the potential and limits of economic and policy instruments - including insurance and risk sharing, environmental markets and pricing, and public private partnerships - that can be used to motivate adaptation actions. 0 Table of contents List of abbreviations. Libro: Climate Change and Vulnerability (978-1-84407-469-3) de Varios autores (Earthscan Publications ) Comprar Libros de Ciencias Técnicas .Ecología y Medio Ambiente .. Sound and solid case studies on vulnerability and adaptation have been woefully lacking in the international discourse on climate change. This set of books begins to bridge the gap. Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary General and Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme Important reading for students and practitioners alike. Martin Parry, Co-Chair, Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability), Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) This book fills an important gap in our understanding ... It is policy-relevant and deserves to be widely read. Richard Klein, Senior Research Fellow, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Sweden The award of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 to the IPCC brings needed attention to the threats from climate change for highly vulnerable regions of the developing world. This authoritative volume (along with its companion covering adaptation) resulting from the work of the Assessments of Impacts and Adaptations to Climate Change (AIACC) project launched with the IPCC in 2002, is the first to provide an in-depth investigation of the stakes in developing countries. It discusses who is vulnerable and the nature and causes of their vulnerability for parts of the world that have been poorly researched till now. It also provides researchers with new examples of applications of vulnerability assessment methods, an approach that is of growing interest in the climate change area but for which there are relatively few applications in the literature. 0

Libro: Adaptation to Climate Change: A Spatial Challenge (978-1-4020-9358-6) de Roggema (SPRINGER VERLAG GMBH ) Comprar Libros de Ciencias Técnicas .. As it becomes clear that climate change is not easily within the boundaries of the 1990?s, society needs to be prepared and needs to anticipate future changes due to the uncertain changes in climate. So far, extensive research has been carried out on several issues including the coastal defence or shifting ecozones. However, the role spatial design and planning can play in adapting to climate change has not yet been focused on. This book illuminates the way adaptation to climate change is tackled in water management, ecology, coastal defence, the urban environment and energy. The question posed is how each sector can anticipate climate change by creating spatial designs and plans. The main message of this book is that spatial design and planning are a very useful tool in adapting to climate change. It offers an integral view on the issue, it is capable in dealing with uncertainties and it opens the way to creative and anticipative solutions. Dealing with adaptation to climate change requires a shift in mindset; from a technical rational way of thinking towards an integral proactive one. A new era in spatial design and planning looms on the horizon. 0

Libro: Climate Change and the Health of Nations: Famines, Fevers, and the Fate of Populations (978-0-19-026295-2) de Anthony J. McMichael, Alistair Woodward, Cameron Muir (OXFORD UNIV PR ) Comprar Libros de Ciencias Técnicas .Ecología y Medio Ambiente .. When we think of "climate change," we think of man-made global warming, caused by greenhouse gas emissions. But natural climate change has occurred throughout human history, and populations have had to adapt to the climate's vicissitudes. Anthony J. McMichael, a renowned epidemiologist and a pioneer in the field of how human health relates to climate change, is the ideal person to tell this story. Climate Change and the Health of Nations shows how the natural environment has vast direct and indirect repercussions for human health and welfare. McMichael takes us on a tour of human history through the lens of major transformations in climate. From the very beginning of our species some five million years ago, human biology has evolved in response to cooling temperatures, new food sources, and changing geography. As societies began to form, they too adapted in relation to their environments, most notably with the development of agriculture eleven thousand years ago. Agricultural civilization was a Faustian bargain, however: the prosperity and comfort that an agrarian society provides relies on the assumption that the environment will largely remain stable. Indeed, for agriculture to succeed, environmental conditions must be just right, which McMichael refers to as the "Goldilocks phenomenon." Global warming is disrupting this balance, just as other climate-related upheavals have tested human societies throughout history. As McMichael shows, the break-up of the Roman Empire, the bubonic Plague of Justinian, and the mysterious collapse of Mayan civilization all have roots in climate change. Why devote so much analysis to the past, when the daunting future of climate change is already here? Because the story of mankind?s previous survival in the face of an unpredictable and unstable climate, and of the terrible toll that climate change can take, could not be more important as we face the realities of a warming planet. This sweeping magnum opus is not only a rigorous, innovative, and fascinating exploration of how the climate affects the human condition, but also an urgent call to recognize our species' utter reliance on the earth as it is. 0

Springer Publishing Map Tropical Rainforest

Libro: Tropical Rainforest Responses to Climatic Change (978-3-540-23908-6) de Flenley; Bush (Springer Publishing Map ) Comprar Libros de Ciencias Técnicas .. The goal of thisnbsp;book is to provide a current overview of the impacts of climate change on tropical forests, to investigate past, present, and future climatic influences on the ecosystems with the highest biodiversity on the planet. "Tropical Rainforest Responses to Climatic Change" will be the first book to examine how tropical rain forest ecology is altered by climate change, rather than simply seeing how plant communities were altered. Shifting the emphasis onto ecological processes e.g. how diversity is structured by climate and the subsequent impact on tropical forest ecology, provides the reader with a more comprehensive coverage. A major theme of this book that emerges progressively is the interaction between humans, climate and forest ecology. While numerous books have appeared dealing with forest fragmentation and conservation, none have explicitly explored the long term occupation of tropical systems, the influence of fire and the future climatic effects of deforestation, coupled with anthropogenic emissions. Incorporating modelling of past and future systems paves the way for a discussion of conservation from a climatic perspective, rather than the usual plea to stop logging. 0
